From the resident wine enthusiast (MIMI)
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but
the fire is so delightful, and since we've nowhere to
go.......WAIT! Yes, we have a place to go: The Saltwater
Grille!!! This is the time of year when you long for something
hearty that fills your belly and warms you from the inside
out. I'll let Jason satisfy the food cravings, I'm the
go-to-girl for wine. Having said that, I've created a small
reserve list of red wines that will certainly warm not only
your body, but will definitely put a smile on your face. I
suggest bringing someone with you who shares your passion for
all things rouge, and start with a bottle of Flowers Pinot
Noir "Andreen Gale." It's a lovely wine with a great nose of
berries and earth. It reminds me of berry picking on a farm,
all the aromas of an organic commune with nature.
The
reserve list covers the spectrum from the California, to Italy
and Spain. From Pinot Noir you can graduate to Cabernet
Sauvignon, particularly the Caymus Special Selection. If ever
there was a bottle of wine that epitomizes California Cab,
it's Caymus. It only gets better from there. Indulge your
oenophile jones with Solaia from Antinori, Chateau Montelena
Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, or Col Solare from Columbia Valley,
Washington. They're perfect wines to drink while you sit in
front of the fireplace here waiting for them to sprout forth
all their wonderful aromas. Last, but not least, for those of
you who really like to have your socks knocked off there's
always the creme de la creme, Amarone from Roccolo de
Grassi.
Winter and the holidays are about snuggling up,
or spreading cheer, preferably with those you love. I highly
recommend doing that with one of the fine bottles from our
reserve list. After all, you only live once and shouldn't you
remind yourself of that while you're drinking great wine? I
think
so.
Cheers!
